Can you insure a wolfdog?

Wolfdogs can be insured, though cover may differ from those of a standard domestic dog. With varying breed histories, ancestry and individual circumstances, each wolfdog is unique – and their insurance should reflect that.

If you’re looking for wolfdog insurance in the UK, our friendly team would love to have a chat with you. We’ll take the time to learn about your dog before explaining the insurance options that may be available.

Just give us a call and tell us about your dog. We’ll talk you through the next steps and help you understand your options.

What can wolfdog insurance cover?

Wolfdogs are much-loved companions, and we understand how worrying it can be when they become ill, are injured or go missing. Depending on the policy you choose, wolfdog insurance can help provide financial support towards certain unexpected costs, giving you greater peace of mind.

Vet cover for wolfdogs

If your wolfdog becomes ill or is injured, the cost of veterinary treatment can quickly add up. Wolfdog insurance can help cover eligible veterinary costs, including treatment for certain hereditary conditions.

Death from injury or illness

Losing a beloved wolfdog can be incredibly difficult. If your pet dies as a result of an injury or illness, your policy can help towards the costs following their death.

Loss from theft, fire or weather perils

Having your wolfdog stolen or losing them because of an unexpected event can be deeply distressing. If your pet is lost as a result of theft, fire or specified weather perils, your policy can help towards the costs following their loss.

Just give us a call and tell us about your dog. We’ll talk you through the next steps and help you understand your options.

Wolfdog insurance FAQs

How much does wolfdog insurance cost?

The cost of wolfdog insurance depends on your dog’s individual circumstances and the level of cover available.

We’ll need some information about your dog, including their breed or mix, ancestry, age and other relevant details, before we can give you a price for your policy.

Can I insure a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog or Saarloos Wolfdog?

If you own a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog or Saarloos Wolfdog, contact our team to talk about your options.

We’ll ask you about your dog’s age, breed history and individual circumstances before providing a tailored quote.

Can I insure a F1 or F2 Wolfdog?

An F1 wolfdog is a first-generation wolfdog – one parent is a domestic dog and the other is a wolf, meaning it has 50% wolf and 50% domestic dog ancestry. For this reason, we cannot insure an F1 wolfdog.

An F2 wolfdog is a second-generation wolfdog, produced when an F1 wolfdog is bred with another dog or wolfdog, so the exact percentage of wolf ancestry can vary. We can insure F2 wolfdogs.

You’ll need to have information about your dog’s ancestry and any applicable Dangerous Wild Animals Licence to hand when you call for a quote.

Can I get third-party liability insurance for a wolfdog?

Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide third-party liability insurance for wolfdogs. This applies regardless of the wolfdog’s breed mix, percentage of wolf content, age, or ownership circumstances.

Do I need a licence to keep a wolfdog?

Some wolfdogs and wolfdog hybrids may require a licence depending on how closely they are related to their wild ancestor. If you’re unsure whether your dog requires a Dangerous Wild Animals licence, you should check with your local authority.

If your dog is licensed, have your licence details available when you contact us, as they may be relevant when discussing your insurance requirements.

Can I insure my wolfdog if they have a pre-existing condition?

Tell us about any previous or existing health conditions when you speak to our team.

We’ll explain how your dog’s health history affects the cover available and whether any exclusions or other terms may apply.
