We strongly recommend that you register your pet with a specialist vet.
Why register with a vet?
The care of your pet is your responsibility, and ensuring your pet receives prompt medical treatment when needed forms part of the Animal Welfare Act, Section 9. This in part states that animals need to be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease. By registering with a specialist vet you’re planning ahead, and putting your pet first. It can also save you money on expensive referral fees.
What should you look for when choosing a vet?
Read the story about Bertie the African Grey parrot, who wasn’t registered with an exotic vet when he began to choke on a nut.
Finding a vet near you
All vets must be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Their website offers a great search facility, which enables you to also search for an exotic pet specialist near you.
Pet insurance
We know that vet bills can be expensive and can quickly escalate. Insurance with ExoticDirect can cover your pet for that vet treatment, leaving you to focus on your pet. Find out more about our insurance for parrots; small birds; reptiles; tortoises; small mammals; exotic mammals and birds of prey.
With the correct care, love and attention, your pet should lead a long and happy life. The appropriate vet, along with pet insurance to help cover those vet bills can both form part of your responsibility as a loving pet owner.
